About this tour
This Domus Aurea tour pairs two of ancient Rome’s most extraordinary places: the Colosseum and Nero’s lost Golden House, buried for centuries beneath the Oppian Hill.
The Colosseum with arena floor access
A professional guide leads you past the Arch of Constantine and into the Colosseum, then out onto the arena floor, with stories of gladiators, emperors, public spectacles and Roman engineering.
Nero’s Golden House in virtual reality
A short walk away, the Domus Aurea was once a vast imperial palace of frescoed halls and gilded ceilings. You walk through its surviving vaulted rooms, then put on a virtual reality headset to see them as they looked in Nero’s time.

The Domus Aurea stays at around 10°C all year, so bring a light layer, and the underground rooms aren’t suitable for anyone with claustrophobia.
